Guest: Dr. J. Josh Smith, Senior Pastor, Prince Avenue Baptist Church
If you’d like to watch this podcast, check out the PCA YouTube page.
I have really enjoyed the writing of Josh Smith. His earlier book The Titus Ten: Foundations for Godly Manhood was an excellent read and a great resource for men’s groups wanting to dig deeper into the Word of God and life together.
His most recent book is The Man for the Day: Answering the Call to Godly Manhood and it is a much more personal look at the daily walk with the Lord for men - it is both challenging and encouraging at the same time - again, a great resource for men’s groups or for men to read as individuals.
If you want to grow in your relationship with the Lord as a man…and in your relationships with your wife, children, and others, this is a powerful and important book for you to read.

Guest: David Marvin, Teaching Pastor, Prestonwood Baptist Church

This is the continuation from last week of a conversation with Prestonwood teaching pastor David Marvin about the practical application of God’s commandment to honor your father and mother. Last week we focused on how we, as parents, can honor our own parents. This week we look at how we, as parents, can train our children to obey and honor us - so this is an important conversation!
This conversation grew from a lesson that Pastor Marvin taught at Prestonwood a few weeks ago as part of the series addressing the Ten Commandments.

A few weeks ago, Pastor David Marvin taught an incredible lesson from the Word of God looking at the fifth commandment, honoring your father and mother. I was able to sit down and have an incredible conversation with Pastor Marvin about the practical aspects of living out this commandment, especially when it comes to older parents and the different relationships that we, as parents ourselves, have with our parents.
Pastor Marvin shared some powerful truths about learning to respect the position of authority that God has established even if the performance of your parents was not the best. We talked about the importance of seeking forgiveness and what that truly entails, which can be filled with many obstacles.
Our God is a just and merciful God who desires for us to honor our parents and that commandment should be taken to heart and lived out for others to see. When we trust God, He can do amazing things in the lives of our families.
One resource that I mentioned and found helpful in this discussion was the following:

Guest: Dr. Shane Pruitt, National Next Gen Director for the North American Mission Board (NAMB).
If you’d like to watch this podcast, check out the PCA YouTube page.
Shane Pruitt speaks to students across the country and it was a privilege to sit down and catch up with him to talk about what he’s seeing in this upcoming generation. There is reason for hope…and for concern. While this next generation is interested in spiritual things, they need the focus and refinement of God’s Word and far too few students are being grounded in the Word. This is such an important reminder about the importance of the home, the church, and the school working together - if possible - to provide a consistent and clear message from God’s Word relating to all aspects of life.
Shane is also the author of two outstanding books that were written to help shape the hearts and minds of young people in line with the truth of God’s Word:
9 Common Lies Christians Believe: And Why God’s Truth is Infinitely Better was released in 2019, and Not My Jesus: Reclaiming the Truth, Rejecting the Idols is his latest book released in 2025.

Guest: Adam Griffin, Lead Pastor, Eastside Community Church

Had a really enjoyable, energetic, and engaging conversation with Adam Griffin - former “Cheesehead” like myself, now ministering to families here in the Dallas area. Adam was on staff at The Village when he and Matt Chandler wrote and released a great book titled Family Discipleship: Leading Your Home through Time, Moments, and Milestones - really helpful book for Christian parents wanting to be intentional about the spiritual development of their family.
I haven’t read his latest book, Good News for Parents: How God Can Restore Our Joy and Relieve Our Burdens, but it sounds awesome!
Enjoy the conversation with Adam - and if you find this valuable, make sure you share the podcast with a friend!
